Accurate interpretation of the meanings of Qur'anic verses depends on employing sound semantic methods and the relevant systematic rules. Every exegete approaches the Qur'anic verses through a particular method and perspective and seeks to clarify the intended meaning of the divine discourse. Evaluating the exegetical process, identifying its strengths and weaknesses, and drawing methodological models from an exegete’s work become possible through discovering his method, demonstrating the significance of examining and discussing an exegete’s methodology. In his unparalleled work Abaqat al-Anwar, Allamah Mir Hamid Husayn discusses the Imami Qur'anic arguments for the Imamate of Ahl al-Bayt, including the verses of wilayah (al-Ma'idah: 55), purification (al-Ahzab: 33), and mutual imprecation (Al 'Imran: 61). Therefore, it is necessary to investigate his exegetical methodology by describing and analyzing his exegetical data concerning the verses of Imamate and drawing upon the relevant library sources, particularly the sections on verses and traditions in Abaqat al-Anwar. Overall, the Allamah’s exegetical process can be distinguished through two approaches: structural and contextual. In the former, determining meaning is possible only through the internal structure of the verses. In the latter, the intended meaning of Qur'anic propositions is derived by taking the external context into account. This study demonstrates that the method of the author of Abaqat in interpreting the verses, from a structuralist perspective, can be traced at two levels—words and sentences—along with the identification of components such as polysemy and semantic relations.
