Owing to its profound semantic depth and multidimensional nature, the Qurʾan has always required an infallible interpreter. Within Shiʿi epistemology, the Ahl al-Bayt are regarded as those firmly grounded in knowledge (al-rāsikhūn fī al-ʿilm) and as the “speaking Qurʾan,” constituting the sole authentic authorities for the interpretation (tafsīr) and inner exegesis (taʾwīl) of revelation. This article aims to examine how Qurʾanic verses are manifested in the Ziyārat al-Ghadīriyyah attributed to Imam al-Hādī, and to analyze his role as a true exegete of the Qurʾan.
Methodologically, the study employs qualitative content analysis of selected passages from the Ziyārat al-Ghadīriyyah and correlates them with explicit or implicit Qurʾanic verses. The findings demonstrate that Imam al-Hādī articulates Qurʾanic teachings through a reasoned and discursive language, embedding them within the structured formulations of the ziyārah. The research categorizes these passages according to a comprehensive thematic system of Imamate and examines the Qurʾanic manifestations across several key axes: the conditions of the Imam (such as divine designation, ʿiṣmah [infallibility], superiority, and special knowledge); the offices of the Imam (including wilāyah [authority], ḥujjiyyah [authoritativeness], and guidance); the spiritual and ontological ranks of the Imam (such as being the upright religion, the straight path, the criterion between truth and falsehood, and the leader of the God-conscious); the duties of the community toward the Imam (including recognition, obedience, and allegiance); and the historical unfolding of the institution of Imamate.
The study concludes that the Ziyārat al-Ghadīriyyah transcends the genre of a devotional text and constitutes a rich and unparalleled source for understanding the doctrines and diverse dimensions of Imamate from a Qurʾanic perspective as articulated by the Ahl al-Bayt. This approach not only deepens insight into the virtues and status of the Commander of the Faithful and supports the Imāmī claim regarding legitimate succession, but also opens a new avenue for reflection on the inseparable relationship between the “Book” and the “Household” (al-Kitāb wa-l-ʿItra).
